Brits who are hoping to get the gas barbecue out to continue to enjoy the warm weather may be investing in some quality wine for the occasion.Founder of Laithwaites Wine Tony Laithwaite, a wine merchant with over 40 years of experience, noted that the recession has seen some individuals cut back on the amount of alcohol they are buying. However, he pointed out that for others, they are not just cutting back on the amount that they consume, but are also choosing to seek out a better drinking strategy too. This can particularly be seen in wine sales, Mr Laithwaite acknowledged, as more Brits are willing to work their way up the range, perhaps to find a quality product to offer at a BBQ party.he explained: "They've learned wine – if you try a better wine you want to stay with [it], you don't want to go down to the less good wines if you can help it."Italian wine could prove popular with barbecue chefs too, after recent research by Nielsen established that in the past year, this type of drink has increased in sales by 12 per cent.Posted by Mike McGibbon
